Calculus on a rooftop

friendly guy standing on rooftop Hi, I'm Arthur you may be wondering why I'm on this roof. Well, just trust me, I'm allowed up here.
You may also be wondering how I'm going to teach calculus from up here

Well,I needed to find something with a slope because the first part of calculus is

Finding the slope

The slope of the roof is just rise over run, how much higher do I go if I walk forward for a greater length? the roof drawn with a triangle underneath it whose right leg has: rise, height increase, delta Y. the bottom leg has: run, length distance, delta X. you should remember this from algebra slope=Δ y / Δ x
I'm going to tell you that the height of the edge of the roof is about 3 meters above the ground. this part of the roof has a length of 3.5 meters from one end of the building to the middle, where it peaks.
the roof rises 2 meters that means that, if you graphed this roof as a function of height versus length, It would create a function: height=(3/4)length+10meters
or: y=(3/4)3x+10
